Durham Ag student

For many of our students, raising livestock is their favorite part about being enrolled in an Ag class. All students enrolled in an Ag class are required to have a “Supervised Agricultural Experience”. That can really be anything as long as it ties back into the ag industry. Many students in Durham choose to raise a Steer, pig, lamb, goat or rabbit for the Silver Dollar or Butte County fairs, sometimes even both, then sell that animal during the Junior Livestock Auction. This experience teaches students to maintain records, be responsible for another living thing, learn about livestock nutrition and can introduce students to being financially responsible and running a business! We also have several students that raise breeding livestock and work in animal science internships which take those life lessons and really amplify them!
