Attendance

Daily Attendance

Consistent daily attendance is important for academic success!

If your student is going to be absent or late, a parent or guardian must call the school at:
530-895-4684 x 1 before 9:00am to report the absence or tardy.

Excessive absences or tardies could lead to a referral to the School Attendance Review Board.  Please see below for the reasons for excused and unexcused absences.

Excused Absences

The following are reasons for excused absences:

  • Illness

  • Medical, dental, or counseling appointments

  • Funeral services for immediate family

  • Court appearance

  • Quarantine

Unexcused Absences

The following are unexcused absences or tardies:

  • Oversleeping

  • Visiting Relatives

  • Car Trouble

  • Parent or guardian illness

  • Providing childcare for young children/siblings

  • Lack of transportation

  • Student’s birthday

  • Translating for family members

  • Attending funeral for non-family members

Independent Study

Consistent ‘in the seat’ attendance is always preferable for student achievement.  However, for those occasions where it is impossible for a student to attend school, parents may request a student be placed on Independent Study.

An Independent Study Contract can be approved for a minimum of 5 days absence, at the teachers’ and/or principal’s discretion.  Please give the school attendance office one to two weeks' notice when requesting an Independent Study packet for a student.  Teachers will need ample time to gather enough homework to count toward average daily attendance (ADA) while the student is away.  All work done through Independent Study must be returned to the DIS office in order to receive proper attendance credit for the student.  Also, factor in that upon return each teacher must also give approval that adequate work was completed while on the Independent Study.
