Dear Durham Unified parents and guardians,

This afternoon an incident occurred at the Durham Pool where a Durham Intermediate student appeared to be non-responsive.  The teaching staff, who are CPR certified and lifeguard certified, immediately pulled the student from the water and began CPR.  Paramedics arrived within minutes, and the student was breathing and responding to staff questions when they arrived.  The student was transferred to a local hospital for care and observation. We are currently conducting interviews of witnesses and those involved to determine exactly what happened and how the incident was handled.  If you have questions you should contact
Superintendent John Bohannon. at jbohannon@durhamunifield.org

We want to thank the Durham Unified staff and the first responder medical team for their quick action in helping us deal with this unfortunate situation. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the student and family members affected by this troubling event.  Trauma counselors will be
available on campus next week. Please call the school office if you would like assistance.
